Abildå Lignite bed

Distance: 25.33 Km

Abildå Brunkulsleje is 15 km from Herning. It is a living museum, started by former lignite workers with the aim of telling about one of the great workplaces of the lignite era. Here, daily life in the bed is shown and told, as well as how the digging took place.
There is also the option of a wonderful little stroll in the very special nature area.

The working museum, Abildå Brunkulsleje, was started by old coal workers and has been created over the last 30 years.

Over the years, various old machines have been added, and the museum is run by committed volunteers.
As the only place in Denmark, here you can experience how the coal was mined, and you can follow how the many million-year-old material is unearthed.

Furthermore, you can experience how the lignite biters work in Abildå. It has not changed since then, as it is still the old machines and tools that are used.

You also have the option of buying lignite to take home.

Likewise, all days of the year you can enjoy the nature that has grown in the otherwise nutrient-poor sand and waterholes that were left for approx. 70 years ago. The nature trail around the area is approx. 2 km. long.

You are allowed to bring food, and there is a covered hall for free use.

Until October 21, it is open every day 10-17. From October 22 to April 30, 2021 open by appointment.
