Dejbjerg Heath

Distance: 16.98 Km

Go to Dejbjerg Hede and experience the nature and history of West Jutland. Dejbjerg Hede is known for its many ancient mounds and church towers, the beautiful nature and the stories of the area's outcast folk, the Rakke.

Lovely routes in Dejbjerg Plantage and Dejbjerg Hede. South of the road between Lem Stationsby and Hanning, it lies approx. 118 ha Dejbjerg Heath, which is protected. There are 3 marked routes in Dejbjerg Plantage and Dejbjerg Hede. The trail surface is sand and forest floor. You can travel with prams and wheelchairs on the routes. There are tables and benches at the car parks.

The heath is tended to avoid the growth of self-sown trees. South of the fire belt, the heath is owned by the Stubkjær Family Group. In the western part of the moor there is a group of 25 ancient mounds. There is access to the heath by the ancient mounds on the top of the hill, from which there is a magnificent view of the West Jutland landscape. In clear weather, you can see Ringkøbing Fjord and the North Sea approx. 20 km away. To the south you can see the Skjern Å valley and Borris Hede, and on the horizon you can see Ølgod approx. 25 km away. You can count more than 20 church towers from the vantage point.

Travel back in time

Dejbjerg Hede og Bakker can not be mentioned without the thoughts being directed to the racks or thugs, as they were also called. It was a strange and interesting people who were expelled from the rest of society because of their "unclean" work and wandering way of life. An extensive literature describes the lives and movements of these people on the heath.
