Dejbjerg Plantation

Distance: 16.54 Km

Dejbjerg Plantage is a nature area located close to Skjern. Pour coffee into the thermos, go for a walk on one of the area's many hiking routes and experience the nature and history of West Jutland.

Dejbjerg Plantage is a popular excursion site, located near Skjern and Lem. The area offers three hiking trails of different lengths. Along the way you can get past many local sights.

Dejbjerg Plantage was established around the year 1900. From 1903-14 there was a prison colony from Horsens Tugthus in the area. The people from here planted most of the plantation. Easter Sunday in 1932 burned 150 tdr. Of land. Also this time it was people from a prison camp who planted the plantation again. In May 1947, a new fire broke out, which in an hour and a half destroyed another 150 tdr. Land plantation, which is also now replanted.
In the plantation, a memorial has been erected to EM Dalgas, who after 1864 became the pioneer of heath cultivators with the slogans: What is lost outwards must be won inwards.

The area is beautifully surrounded by heather and coniferous forests. From the memorial, which has been erected on a vomited hill on the edge of Skovbjerg Bakkeø, there is a magnificent view of the heath and plain landscape and Ringkøbing Fjord. You can also see Holmsland Klit in the west and Varde Bakkeø in the south.
