Abeline's farm
Distance: 16.96 Km
The monotonous sound of the ticking of the clock mingles with the crackling sound of Abeline's knitting needles. She sits in the chair and looks out at the winding dirt road while she looks after the switchboard. Then it knocks on the door. The neighbor comes to call, because the phone is the only one on Holmsland Klit.
When you step into the listed beach marshal's farm, you step into a time warp. Abeline no longer sits with her knitting in her hand at the telephone switchboard and offers hot coffee at Madam Blue, but the farm stands as if she had just left it in the 1950s.
The farm was built in the period 1854-1871 by Abeline's father-in-law. He was a lifeguard, and had to recover wreckage, hold stranding auctions and shelter sailors from sunken ships. Abeline took over the farm with her husband in 1890, but she became a widow in 1904 and then ran the farm together with her 5 children until her death in 1957. Strandings became fewer, in return Abeline began to house summer guests - Holmsland Klit as a tourist destination was born.
On the farm you will find a cozy café, where cold and hot drinks are served, as well as ordinary coffee bread. Also visit the small museum shop, where you can find souvenirs and buy ice cream.
